How We Met
In the vast landscape of the digital world, where profiles and pixels intersect, our love story unfolded in the most unexpected of places—online. It was a modern-day serendipity that brought us together, and little did we know that a simple swipe, click, and message would lead to a lifetime of shared joys. Our story began on Match.com, where curiosity and hope led us to create profiles that would ultimately bridge the virtual gap between us. Fernando caught my eye with his witty and direct bio, and I mustered the courage to send that first message.
From emojis to paragraphs, our conversations quickly evolved into a delightful exchange of thoughts, dreams, and laughter. We discovered a profound connection that transcended the digital realm, and three days later we decided to take our conversations offline and meet in the real world.
Our first in-person meeting was filled with excitement and anticipation, as the chemistry we felt through our screens materialized into a tangible connection. We met at a Panera Bread, I was only 45 minutes late but thank God Fernando waited for me. I promised him I was worth the wait and he was definitely worth all my efforts. The awkwardness melted away, and in its place, we found comfort, familiarity, and the promise of something extraordinary. Panera staff had to usher us out of the restaurant four hours later and we quickly booked our first formal date one week later.
Our relationship blossomed! We navigated the challenges and celebrated the triumphs, building a foundation of trust and understanding that deepened with each passing day, particularly after our children met in March of 2023. Their immediate connection and bond catapulted our relationship into a destiny that was ours to claim. A beautiful family was formed and there was no turning back. Through it all, the screen that initially separated us faded into the background, and what emerged was a love story that defied the limits of technology.
Now, as we stand on the threshold of forever, we reflect on the path that led us to this moment. Our wedding is not just a celebration of our love; it’s a testament to the modern magic that brought two hearts together in the most unexpected way. In the heart of Tustin, at a charming restaurant, with the lively melody of a mariachi band filling the air, I knew that this moment would be etched in the hearts of our love story forever.
As we sat surrounded by the vibrant colors and festive ambiance, the joyous notes of the mariachi music added an extra layer of magic to the evening. The atmosphere was alive with celebration, mirroring the excitement that bubbled within my heart.
With the rhythm of the mariachi setting the stage, I took a deep breath, knowing that the time had come to ask the question that had been playing on my mind. Our eyes met, and I could feel the warmth of our shared moments, the laughter, and the countless memories that had brought us to this point.
Amidst the uplifting melodies and the clinking of glasses, I was asked to join the Mariachi and sing ‘Hermoso Cariño.’ As I serenaded Yesenia, I felt tremendous joy at the idea of our forever filled with romance, song, dance, and a profound love. The mariachi’s harmonies seemed to pause in anticipation as I looked into your eyes, and with a mixture of nerves and overwhelming love, I asked, “Will you marry me?”
The mariachi continued to play, and as the notes resonated through the restaurant, there was a moment of suspended time. In the midst of the music and the shared gazes, your face lit up with surprise and joy. It was a symphony of emotions, and with a radiant smile, you replied, “Yes, a million times yes!”
The mariachi band, as if on cue, erupted into a jubilant celebration of our love. The entire restaurant seemed to join in the chorus of our happiness, creating an unforgettable backdrop to the beginning of our journey towards forever.
And so, in the presence of mariachi melodies and the warmth of our shared love, we embarked on this beautiful chapter of our lives. She asked, and He said YES!
On the gorgeous afternoon of November 26, 2023, Yesenia proposed to Fernando during a romantic gondola ride along the canals of Naples in Long Beach, CA. After Fernando’s beautiful proposal one month prior, Yesenia wanted to create a special moment for Fernando as well. She wanted something intimate and romantic for him. So upon the arrival of his ring, she booked an afternoon gondola ride with a message in a bottle experience.
Our gondolier took us to the open waters around the island of Naples and asked Fernando to please grab the bottle someone must have dropped in the water. The gondolier (who also races gondolas once a year in Venice, Italy) said sometimes people leave their trash behind when on their boats and he always makes sure he maintains clean waters when possible. Without hesitation, Fernando said of course he’ll pick up the bottle.
Upon taking the bottle, we noticed it was a timeless glass bottle with beautiful shells and what looked like 100 year old parchment inside. I asked him to open it and read it. There was a brief moment of silence while he read my note that thanked him for the most beautiful love this past year and my request, “will you marry me?”
The moment of shock took his breath away as he inhaled deeply and looked over to his ring in a box and my big smile. He was speechless and he couldn’t even say “yes.” It took a few minutes but I finally got his one million yeses also.
The moment was sweet and dare I say, he wears the ring very well! Cheers to our forever love.
